I’m about to the point that I’m ready to redo another room. I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to do the downstairs bathroom or pick one bathroom upstairs to tackle first. Both bathrooms upstairs need it more — but I look at the one downstairs most.
I don’t like white walls and I don’t like rooms painted with colors that aren’t complimentary.
Everyone has their own thing and that’s great! You do you… right? But for me, I prefer to stick with a theme throughout. If there’s carpet — I want it to be the same throughout the house (except the bathrooms… then I want them to have matching floors). If there’s wood flooring — I want that to be consistent throughout too (again, except in the bathrooms).
Ever go in a house and stand in one room and the room next to it is decorated with a color that clashes horribly? I hate that! For example, I remember once Jerilyn had a kitchen painted school bus yellow and the dining room a dark red. It looked like McDonalds!
It’s not one size fits all.
When you live in a home with wood floors, the color scheme you choose can be anything. In Seymour, I used shades of deep purple paired with muted hues of taupe and blue. Black and gray accents were everywhere.
The barndo theme is rustic and is set in stone barn wood.
- The floors downstairs are acid-stained a terracotta color. Upstairs has vinyl planks that look rustic.
- The inside trim throughout is rustic (at least the rooms that have trim are rustic). Windows here are trimmed with actual barnwood.
The previous owners painted with colors they liked and it’s willy nilly. They used a LOT of blue hues (some pretty darned bright) paired with florescent green, some oranges and browns… and then forest green and dark beige thrown in. Oh, and barn red too! The downstairs bedroom painted deep barn red with orange floors got attention first. 🙂
Shades of the colors below are what I’m rolling with… (except for Coco’s room, of course):
Coming soon to a blog near you…
Stay tuned for before and after photos of my next project that should appear within the next week!
