My electric bill is up about $75/m compared to the same time period last year and I’m not sure why. The hot tub is sure to raise a bill, but I’ve had them in the past and it wasn’t even close to that much — and it’s not even been that cold. YET!
Let’s see if we can figure this out…
REMC has a tool where you can break down your usage by the hour. I see this huge pop of electricity being spent during times the lights are off and I’m snoozing away. We heat with a wood boiler, so it’s not that. What could it be?
I wrote everything down (when I used the dryer, stove, computers, etc.) by the hour for a full day. Still, nothing matched up to the hours of high usage. My cheapest hour was when I dried a load of clothes while baking a meatloaf. *boggle*
So now what?
When you buy $1,000 worth of wood to heat for a season, it doesn’t make sense for your electric bill to be over $300/m in the winter. It’s not like there’s a huge family living here for crying out loud. Unless you count dogs. 😉
