It was the wee hours of the morning when the puppies went out for their last time before bed. It had already started to snow.
By the time I got up, I’m guessing we had about 3″ of the white stuff. Enough to cover the ground, the road in front of the barndo, and make the trees look pretty even without leaves.
We’re staying warm even though wind chill advisories are in effect for the Ville.
The ole’ outdoor boiler chugs smoke constantly in this type of weather. Funny how the smoke flows according to the air — sometimes it hovers close to the ground, while other times it flows naturally.
We don’t care where or how the smoke rolls out — all we care about is warm floors and hot water. With wind chill predictions to be -20°F later today, I’m grateful for the constant heat it provides.
Could this have been home heating related?
Local Facebook posts are all about a fire on Walnut Street in the Ville this morning. Luckily, the homeowner was at work — the house is a total loss. Not that anytime is acceptable to lose everything, but it’s got to be even worse when the weather is so bitter cold.
I have to wonder if we’ll later find out that a space heater — or something similar — started the fire. With rising costs of EVERYTHING, there are so many that simply can’t afford to keep warm… can’t afford to repair what isn’t working… can’t afford to pay their utility bills when they get them. 🙁
