minimizing time and effort in landscaping

Apr 18, 2024

Although this is only the 2nd spring spent back in rural Crothersville, it feels like longer. Looking at all there is to accomplish, I fail to remember all that’s already been done. Moving forward, I know there are simply too many areas that the previous owners designated to be landscaped for me to handle.

Yesterday, I dug up and moved a shrub just to shrink one spot.

You might’ve done the same if you’d already moved 1,000 pounds of rumblestone edgers. 🙂

While I won’t be moving the bushes in the photo below because I do think they’re beautiful, I don’t understand why the bee-attracting things were put right where you sit outside on the deck. ARG!

What’s left to do besides adding plants and shrubs and mulch and sowing grass?

I want low-maintenance landscaping options that don’t require excessive time, effort, or resources for upkeep. I want perennial flowers and shrubs — and I want them in spots that don’t take hours to water every evening in the summer. I want about 1/4 of the areas to care for than what are here already.

I want a healthier back or a team of strong men to simply do all this for me. Since neither of those things are likely, I’ll just keep plugging along…
