Pro garden tip: Plant Cherokee Purple tomatoes! Initially grown by Cherokee Indians, their seeds have been unchanged for over a century.

And they taste amazing!!

Cherokee tomatoes are purple

I was a bit skeptical before eating the ripened tomato that looks a bit more black than it does purple. Upon cutting it, I noticed the seeds are on the outside near the skin. Odd, right? They’re shaped life a beefsteak, and serious tomato growers describe the flavor as rich, complex and sweet.

This ugly tomato is now a favorite… and I LOVE fresh homegrown tomatoes.

Mr. Pesky Neighbor is a whole lot more valuable in the summertime since he’s the expert gardener.
