It’s going to be awhile before I have to bring my plants back inside, but the cooler nights have me thinking about it anyway. That means assessing what I have, doing some repotting, and adding a few mums this fall.
Mr. Pesky tried to kill this one…
Someone put my name on a peace lily that was delivered to the funeral home when my Nanny died in 2011. I’ve kept it alive ever since and even divided it into two plants – one of which I gave to my Momma.
When I took it back (saved it from ultimate demise), the leaves were all wilted and black and I thought it was a goner for sure. I cut it down to the dirt, set it outside, and treated it like there were leaves when none were visible. Shortly thereafter, a few green springs emerged. It finally looks like a plant again and will move inside before the first frost.
A ponytail palm is hard to kill and would better suit the Pesky Neighbors and anyone that abuses plants. 😉
Ponytail palms are hearty and only require watering every week or two! Mine has stayed the same size forever so I figured it probably needed a bigger pot. When I pulled it out of it’s current container, there wasn’t any dirt — just a huge clump of roots. I broke those apart a bit and gave it a new and bigger home. We’ll see how she does over the coming weeks. I should’ve went bigger.
All that’s left is to pick up a few mums to add some color for fall.
Ben told me about mums for sale at Walmart that smell like apples and cinnamon. Not sure the purpose… and I’ve never heard of that before. All I care about are some big, colorful, regular ole’ mums and a bigger pot for the ponytail palm.
