When I awoke this morning because of Merida’s alert that it was time to go outside, it was a blistering ZERO degrees here in southern Indiana. And it was still dark… the sun just barely peeking out over the horizon. For an even better start to this Monday — my first day of work after 2 months of practice retirement — the storm door was frozen shut.
An excuse to crawl back under the covers and try to fall back asleep.
Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday. I could use it as an excuse to ignore work, but tomorrow I go with Mr. Pesky for an eye exam so I can drive him home with dilated eyes. I’ll have to at least accomplish a few things on my ‘to do’ list so I don’t fall farther behind.
The rest of my team is currently catching a few more zzz’s after breakfast and before the start of this new day.
Good help is hard to find.
Poor Perry stayed up all night because he has to pull 3 overnights in a row. He figured he’d sleep during the day so it would be easier to get in a 3rd shift routine. (One of his employees is taking bereavement time and his store is short-handed with one person still in training.) But his opener didn’t show up!
I don’t envy him today. He’ll work a day shift and only have about 5 hours to sleep and eat before going back in.
I can’t imagine just deciding not to go to work knowing a person on your team — your boss, no less — would be put in such a predicament. Wouldn’t you at least call or text? 🙄
