I have a friend, Julie, that’s a pretty good cook. She has 4 kids and I don’t know how many grandkids. That means she’s used to cooking for larger groups of people than I am. She let me know that the best way to cook bacon is in the oven and NOT in a skillet.
But I have this great new skillet!
Mom ordered a new skillet and said it was amazing. I ordered a large Vinchef skillet for myself and have a smaller one on the way. It’s the only skillet I’ve ever owned that required assembly. The handle comes with a screw so consumers must attach it. It’s great for frying bacon!
The oven baking test…
So Julie said baking bacon doesn’t make your house smell like bacon. For someone that LOVES bacon (like me!), the smell isn’t offensive. She said it’s how restaurants make it and it doesn’t pop and make everything a greasy mess. Ok… I’ll give it a try.
Julie instructed me to line a cookie sheet with parchment paper, set the oven temperature to 400°, put the bacon on the parchment paper and bake it until it’s done.
The verdict is in.
Baked bacon is just ok. Given the fact it requires quite a bit of electricity to heat the oven and prep time beforehand — I’ll stick to the skillet method.
